Under the supervision of the Social Work Manager, the Senior Social Worker for Abington Memorial Hospital will assist patients (from infancy through late adulthood) and their families with the multiple physical, social and economic adjustments they may encounter as a result of medical care or illness in order to optimize patient outcomes. The Senior Social Worker will work in collaboration with the Manager of Social Work, as well as the broader interdisciplinary care team. The Senior Social Worker works jointly with the Manager of Social Work to develop programs for patient populations as needed. Provides on-call services to assist with needs identified after departmental hours of operation.
Conditions of Employment:
2 years of hospital-based medical social work experience or healthcare-related experience required.
Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of social service with ability to plan, organize, instruct and coordinate.
Ability to communicate and coordinate efforts with other health disciplines for enhancement of health delivery services to patients.
Since this position will require the selected candidate to engage in regular contact with children in the form of care, guidance, supervision or training, you will be required to meet the requirements of the Child Protective Services Act, including the Pennsylvania State Police criminal background check, the Pennsylvania Department of Welfare child abuse criminal background clearance, and an FBI fingerprint-based federal criminal records check. The selected candidate will not be allowed to commence working until all three (3) are completed satisfactorily.
