Physician Billing Representative - Charge Entry

Primary Function:
Under the direction of the Manager – Revenue Cycle in the Abington – Jefferson Health Physician Billing Office, the Physician Billing Representative – Charge Entry enters, reconciles and monitors charges received from the physician practices to initiate revenue collection and maintain cash flow.

Essential Functions:
  • Enters charges received from physician practices into the appropriate billing system in a timely and accurate way, while meeting the department-established benchmarks for productivity.
  • Registers patient demographic and insurance information related to the charges quickly and correctly.
  • Contacts practices to report omissions or discrepancies. Works with practice staff to resolve same according to department protocols.
  • Ensures all charges have been entered properly by reconciling batches using system reports.
  • Maintains logs of charges received and completed. Contacts the practices as needed to obtain charges for entry by the department deadlines.
  • Understands the use of ICD-10 and CPT coding guides. Check codes on the charge ticket to ensure proper billing. Reports coding questions to the practices and/or the supervisor.

Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a large physician network environment.
  • Must be proficient in reading and understand third-party remittance advice.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and knowledge of various PM systems.
  • Must have a good understanding of CPT and ICD-10 codes.
  • High school graduate or equivalent required. Some college preferred.
  • Understanding of computerized billing systems.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
