Directs Uniform Patrol Operations; implements and plans strategy; ensures that the delegation of responsibilities, procedures and duties are effectively managed and operational; and strives for continued process improvement. As directed, ensures compliance and implementation of granted authority, policies, procedures and federal and state campus crime awareness enactments (Federal Law 101-542, PA Acts 73 and 235).

Principal Duties and Responsibilities – Percentage of Time – Essential Function(s):
  • Meets all standards of the Patient Satisfaction Initiative Criteria in order to make AH the hospital of choice for patients and employees. – 40% – E
  • Hires, trains, evaluates, directs, counsels and disciplines staff to ensure effective operations of the department. Monitors special support services/functions such as loss prevention and training, investigations and key/access control. – 15% – E
  • Directs employees as a member of the Emergency Response Team in their duties, such as fires, bomb threats, explosions or other life-threatening or crime-related situations. – 5% – E
  • Oversees the investigation and reporting on all criminal complaints and offenses committed on Abington – Jefferson Health property. Ensures that sensitive information remains confidential. – 15% – E
  • Reviews department policies and procedures, as JCAHO, OSHA and state/local rules and regulations, to ensure compliance and to provide for the safety and education of employees. Ensures validation of Officer 235 training and certification. – 5% – O
  • Provides data to the Director of Public Safety for the preparation of operating and capital budgets, and manages costs and salaries related to same to achieve department and hospital financial goals. – 15% – O
  • Performs other duties as assigned. – 5% – O


Position Qualifications:

  • 5 years in security with at least 2 years in a supervisory/management capacity.
Education & Training:
  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Criminal Justice.
  • Act 235-certified preferred.
License, Certification & Registration:
  • Current driver's license.
Other Requirements:
  • Computer database and word-processing skills
