I. Primary Function:
  • Under the direction of the Senior Vice President, Regional Advancement, responsible for the direction, planning, implementation and evaluation of all aspects of the planned giving program and major gift development at Abington – Jefferson Health. Conduct a minimum of 150 Meaningful Donor Encounters per year.
  • Manage an individual prospect pool of 150/$2.5- $5M+.
  • Generate 2 proposals per month > $25K (minimum 24/year).
  • Revenue target on 3-year run rate:
    • Tier 1 = 1-3 years/4-6 x salary + benefits
    • Tier 2 = 4-6 years/6-8 x salary + benefits
    • Tier 3 = 7+ years/10 x salary + benefits

II. Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Meet all standards of the Patient Satisfaction Initiative Criteria in order to make AJH the hospital of choice for patients and employees.
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit and steward prospects for major gifts ($25K+), including life income gifts, bequests and other forms of planned gifts to ensure support of Abington – Jefferson Health. Clearly articulate strategic priorities and funding opportunities to prospective donors. Responsible for portfolio of ~150 major gift prospects.
  • Engage clinicians across multiple service lines in philanthropy process: onboard/educate about philanthropy, facilitate introductions to grateful patients, create Physician Profile Cards, develop funding opportunities and attend service line meetings. Build major gift pipeline with new, grateful patient donors.
  • Assist in annual planning and management of all aspects of planned giving program, including stewardship of planned giving donors and communications to promote planned gifts.
  • Research and prepare unique proposals for gift opportunities for major gifts and planned gifts to educate potential donors and their advisors.
  • Identify, cultivate and develop working relationships with local business professionals, including financial advisors and attorneys to facilitate giving process. Oversee Abington Health Foundation Business Council.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

III. Position Qualifications:
  • Experience: A minimum of five years of major gift/planned giving experience, preferably in a hospital setting.
  • Education & Training: Must possess Bachelor’s degree. Advanced training in adjunct field very desirable, such as law, accounting, stocks and bonds, real estate, insurance, etc.
  • License, Certification & Registration: Valid driver’s license.
  • Other Requirements: Knowledge of planned giving instruments preferred—charitable remainder trusts, gift annuities and beneficiary designations. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and be able to represent AJH and AHF in a favorable light. Current auto insurance with proof of coverage required. Must possess a driving record free from major violations within the past five years, and maintain an acceptable driving record with no major violations in accordance with Motor Vehicle Regulations and Abington – Jefferson Health’s auto insurance policy. Any and all major violations incurred must be immediately reported to the manager, department head or Human Resources department.
