Primary Function:
Under the supervision of the Psychiatric Nurse Manager, the Allied Therapist implements art, music, recreation, educational activity and other creative arts therapy programs for care and management of the psychiatric patient. He/she uses the creative process as a means of reconciling conflicts and fostering self-awareness and personal growth, as well as using art as a vehicle for psychotherapy. He/she cares for a population of patients ranging in age from young through late adulthood.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Meets all standards of the Patient Satisfaction Initiative Criteria in order to make AMH the hospital of choice for patients and employees.
  2. Implements the Allied Therapy Program to meet individual patient needs and ensures competency in delivery of mental health services to program's patient population(s).
  3. Develops an activities program for all patients on the psychiatric unit to facilitate the development and rehabilitation of patients.
  4. Assesses progress in meeting program objectives to measure the effectiveness of the established program, and recommends changes as needed.
  5. Supports the unit's philosophy, goals, policies and procedures to promote effective and efficient departmental operations, and achieves desired patient outcomes and patient/family satisfaction.
  6. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Experience: 1-3 years of creative arts therapy and group therapy experience required.
  • Education and Training: Bachelor's degree in creative arts discipline or education. MA or MCAT preferred.
  • License, Certification and Registration: Prefer registration with American Art Therapy and Registration Association, Recreation Therapy Association, or Music, Movement or Horticulture Therapy associations.
  • Other Requirements: Experience with psychiatric patients preferred.
