Primary Function:
Under the direction of the Director of Patient Access Services and the Manager of Financial Clearance and Counseling Unit, the Financial Clearance and Counseling Advocate (FCCA) serves as Abington Health's primary contact and resource to identify and assist patients who are unable to pay their estimated liability prior to treatments or who have large existing balances. The FCCA assesses a patient's liability and provides information regarding payment requirements, alternative financing and charity care programs. All communications, whether electronic or in person, are to be are conducted in a manner that will result in positive patient relations and prompt reimbursement for services. Maintains the highest level of confidentiality when dealing with patients' financial documents and personal circumstances related to their care.

Qualifications:
  • Experience: 3+ years of experience in healthcare patient access or physician practice environment. 3+ years experience in insurance verification, authorization and eligibility or accounting. Demonstrated experience and functional knowledge of rules governing reimbursement programs, charity care and Medicaid programs and qualifications.
  • Education & Training: High school graduate or GED required. Some college with focus or experience in healthcare revenue cycle highly preferred. Demonstrated skills and experience with critical and analytical thinking a must.
  • Other Requirements: Demonstrates only the highest level of customer service possible at all times. Demonstrated proficiency with computer applications such as MS Office. Outstanding oral and written communication skills. Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. Thorough understanding of the impact financial counseling services have on the hospital's reimbursement goals without negatively impacting customer service expectations. Possesses understanding of and follows regulations outlined by state, federal and third-party coverage policies and procedures.
